Case 6 — Case finishing: distinguish a reflection from a surface mark

Correction note for “Case finishing: distinguish a reflection from a surface mark”: retain the wording beginning “Ask for photographs with the light moved and…” in the record. If later material changes it, add the date, the changed wording and the source for that change; do not invent a completed correction here. Keep the stated question separate from any broader claim.

Case 11 — Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle

Different numerals have different optical centres. A comparison mixes two dates and unequal magnification. How can the evidence be improved?

Exercise RWF-29958/11: address this question within its stated limits.

Method note for “What a water-resistance claim does and does not establish”: use “Ask a qualified watchmaker about a suitable test for that individual…” as a row heading in a proposed working record. Put the statement, its supporting source or measurement, and any unresolved detail in separate fields. This proposes a format; it supplies no additional evidence. Keep the stated question separate from any broader claim.

Case 31 — Forum comparison archive: link the evidence and the correction

Clarification for “Forum comparison archive: link the evidence and the correction”: the point beginning “Add a dated correction near the original conclusion…” belongs to the question as written. It should not be read as a report that a new check, purchase or experiment has been completed. Review focus: scope. Keep the stated question separate from any broader claim.

Method note for “Packing photographs: document condition without exposing an address”: use “Photograph the item and protective packing…” as a row heading in a proposed working record. Put the statement, its supporting source or measurement, and any unresolved detail in separate fields. This proposes a format; it supplies no additional evidence. Keep the stated question separate from any broader claim.

Method note for “Lume comparison: keep exposure and charging conditions consistent”: use “Treat the comparison…” as a row heading in a proposed working record. Put the statement, its supporting source or measurement, and any unresolved detail in separate fields. This proposes a format; it supplies no additional evidence. Keep the stated question separate from any broader claim.

Limit of the answer in “Lug-to-lug and end-link overhang in wrist photographs”: “Use a similar camera distance and neutral wrist position; photographs support…” is an excerpt from the discussion, not an independent verification. A reader needs the relevant original material before treating an interpretation as established. Review focus: scope. Keep the stated question separate from any broader claim.

Case 34 — Disputed observation: is this dial colour shift real or just lighting?

Clarifying question: does anyone in the thread have access to both versions at once? Without simultaneous comparison, every claim either way is weak evidence. If not, the next best option is photos with a grey card in frame and white balance locked or set manually, which at least makes separate photos roughly comparable.

Reader check for “QC checklist: prioritise observable faults over pixel hunting”: distinguish the discussion point “Explain what the full-size image shows, what the crop adds and…” from its proposed application. The thread offers a way to reason about the question, without adding a personal experience or a newly observed outcome. Review focus: scope. Keep the stated question separate from any broader claim.

A complication is any function beyond hours, minutes and seconds. A date window counts, technically, and so do a chronograph, GMT hand or moon phase. More complications usually mean more parts, more thickness and more service cost. For a first everyday watch, decide which functions you'd really use before treating them as value.

On anti-reflective coatings: inner-surface AR cuts glare without wear concerns. Outer-surface AR improves legibility further but can scuff over time, and the scuffs show up as hazy patches in certain light. When comparing two watches, check which surfaces are coated. Spec sheets often just say 'AR coated' without saying where.

State the model configuration, the specific concern and links to clear redacted images. Include complete instrument settings where relevant and say explicitly what evidence is missing.

A practical test without a camera: charge both watches the same way, sit in a dark room, and check readability at 5 minutes, 30 minutes and 2 hours. Write down which you can still read the time on. It's subjective but repeatable, and more useful than a single photo.

Ask for a straight-on dial photo with diffuse light and no flash, the full dial in frame, and the hands placed away from the indices (10:10 isn't ideal, because it covers the upper markers). Flash flattens printing and hides lume condition. Diffuse light shows print edges, alignment and any spotting.

Case 12 — Disputed observation: is this dial colour shift real or just lighting?

Batch variation on coloured dials does happen in general. Plating, lacquer thickness and supplier changes can all shift tone, so the claim isn't implausible. Plausible isn't the same as confirmed, though. The thread should keep 'possible' and 'shown' as separate statuses rather than letting repetition turn a hypothesis into accepted fact.
