[Demo notebook] Reference notebook: corrections and recurring beginner questions · RWF-29716

Collector’s journal: a notebook of numbered synthetic discussion exercises. Each case has a question followed by up to six distinct responses.

The source question bank is finite. Later passes revisit a question with a named review focus, using short excerpts to examine scope, method, limitations or a summary. A new case number marks a separate exercise, not a new real event or a claim of historical community activity.

Case 1 — Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle

Different numerals have different optical centres. A comparison mixes two dates and unequal magnification. How can the evidence be improved?

Exercise RWF-29716/1: address this question within its stated limits.

Case 1 — Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle

Use the same numeral, camera axis and approximate image scale. Keep the uncropped originals alongside the detail crops and distinguish optical balance from physical window alignment.

Case 1 — Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle

Clarification for “Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle”: the point beginning “Use the same numeral, camera axis…” belongs to the question as written. It should not be read as a report that a new check, purchase or experiment has been completed. Review focus: scope. Keep the stated question separate from any broader claim.

Case 1 — Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle

Method note for “Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle”: use “Use the same numeral, camera axis…” as a row heading in a proposed working record. Put the statement, its supporting source or measurement, and any unresolved detail in separate fields. This proposes a format; it supplies no additional evidence. Keep the stated question separate from any broader claim.

Case 1 — Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle

Limit of the answer in “Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle”: “Use the same numeral, camera axis…” is an excerpt from the discussion, not an independent verification. A reader needs the relevant original material before treating an interpretation as established. Review focus: scope. Keep the stated question separate from any broader claim.

Case 1 — Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle

Correction note for “Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle”: retain the wording beginning “Use the same numeral, camera axis…” in the record. If later material changes it, add the date, the changed wording and the source for that change; do not invent a completed correction here. Keep the stated question separate from any broader claim.

Case 1 — Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle

Summary draft for “Date window centring: compare the same date at the same angle”: the answer addresses “Use the same numeral, camera axis…”; the related point is “Keep the uncropped originals alongside the detail crops and distinguish…”. Keep both connected to the opening question, and mark any conclusion needing further records as unresolved. Review focus: scope. Keep the stated question separate from any broader claim.

Case 2 — What a water-resistance claim does and does not establish

A listing describes a water-resistance rating but provides no test record for the individual watch. What evidence would address the gap?

Exercise RWF-29716/2: address this question within its stated limits.

Case 2 — What a water-resistance claim does and does not establish

Ask a qualified watchmaker about a suitable test for that individual case and record the test date and method. A photograph or a caseback engraving is not proof of water resistance.
